Election results show that Moses Lake Police Chief Kevin Fuhr will likely become a member of the Moses Lake School Board.

He has a sizable lead in the race for the School Director Number 4 position.

Fuhr calls himself a problem solver, who has very little in common with school board candidates who are campaigning on politically charged issues.

"I'm not getting into this because of the CRT thing," said Fuhr. "I'm not getting into this because of the sex education thing. I have no agenda. I want to fix what I see as a broken district, and then I'm going to go."

Furhr blames the school board for confusion and a lack of transparency in 2016 when plans for a second high school were scrapped after it was approved by voters.

The single Moses Lake high school is one of the largest in the state.

Fuhr says the school board has never been open and transparent with the public and does not communicate well.

He has been police chief in Moses Lake for 15 years, and also was an interim city manager during that stretch. Fuhr says he wants to use that experience in guiding the school board to be more productive.

He says he would fill the vacant school superintendent position as a first priority if elected, and has one specific trait in mind.

"We've got to find someone who communicates well, not just with the public, but communicates with the staff, communicates with the students, communicates well with the school board," Fuhr said.  "We need a communicator.”

Former Moses Lake School Superintendent Josh Meek agreed to leave earlier this year after his management of school funds was called into question.

An updated vote total for the Moses Lake School Board positions and all the races in Tuesday's election will bereleased at 4:30 pm Friday.
