Sage Hills trails system will begin its annual four month closure beginning December 1st.

According to the Chelan County PUD, who manages the area as a wildlife preserve as required by its federal license to operate Rock Island Dam, the closure is meant to provide winter sustenance for mule deer and other wildlife. Mule deer are already moving into their winter refuge in the Wenatchee Foothills, and their numbers in the area typically increase in December and peak in March.

Local entities will also close public access to trailheads north of Fifth Street, including the Horse Lake trail system and the side trails of Dry Gulch Preserve.

Saddle Rock, Jacobsen Preserve, and Castle Rock will remain open during the winter.
