The State House of Representatives passed a bill unanimously Wednesday that would encourage more people to seek careers in law enforcement.

Sponsor Jacquelin Maycumber says it's important to look forward.

"This is about the children who want to see themselves with the badge on and to be peace officers of their community. This bill before you today is about the future of law enforcement and really building the community a policing model."

The bill directs the state's Criminal Justice Training Commission to establish grant outreach programs to traditionally underrepresented groups and communities.
