Three Bonaventure Senior Living residents and two staff members tested positive for COVID-19, although the danger of further infections may have at least somewhat passed.

Director of Operations Jeremiah Gray said all three residents tested positive back in March and are currently isolating.

"We actually believe these (COVID-19 infections) were brought in by outside agencies." explained Gray, "So we've been working with those outside agencies about what they're doing to screen and ensure they're not bringing (coronavirus) into our community."

Bonaventure's coronavirus response began back in January when they started putting protocols in place and making orders for personal protective equipment. In February the facility started screening visitors, and in March more restrictions were added like ending group activities, serving meals in rooms, and monitoring the temperatures of staff and residents.

"We started preparing a long time ago. When others were taking a wait-and-see approach to this, we began preparing back in January. We haven't had shortages of personal protective equipment. We've had cleaners and disinfectant." Gray continued, "So while some people have found themselves in a situation where they're playing catch-up and trying to stop things, we were prepared and ready for this."

Two staff members were already on leave for COVID-19-like symptoms and later tested positive. The other 39 employees of Bonaventure tested negative.
