The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife have planned five controlled burns throughout Eastern Washington starting September 30th.

One of those burns will be at the Colockum Wildlife Area 10 miles southeast of Wenatchee. They are expecting to burn about 500 acres.

Prescribed Fire Manager Matt Eberlein says they, "Work to minimize smoke, but watch for fire personnel or equipment and slow down if you experience reduced visibility on roadways, particularly at night or in the early morning."

Additional burns will take place near Naches, Kettle Falls, Newport and Clarkston.
