Wild Post 5-1 Road Win At West Kelowna

The Wenatchee Wild came out of the gates with crisp energy and rode the momentum to a 5-1 win at West Kelowna on Friday night.

The opening minutes saw the Wild bring a solid push and consistent pressure, putting the Warriors on their heels early. It was a power play goal late in the first period that broke the ice, as Matt Dorsey scored on a low shot from the right circle at the 18:38 mark to cap off a swarming attack. Wenatchee outshot West Kelowna 16-8 in the frame. Only :24 seconds into the second period, Dorsey fed a pass to Harrison Scott that was tipped past Warrior netminder Johnny Derrick for a 2-0 lead. Tyler Young added a power play goal at 5:47 when his shot went off Derrick’s glove and into the net to make it 3-0. Tanner Main added another for a 4-0 lead on a shot from the left point.

At the media timeout, the Wild made a goaltending swap, necessitated by multiple collisions, one of which was penalized for goaltender interference when Daniel Chenard was knocked off his feet backwards into the wall as he played the puck. Noah Altman played the remainder of the game.

West Kelowna managed to avoid being shutout as Deegan Mofford scored from the left circle at 14:52 of the second period, but that was all the offense the Warriors could generate. Jack Bayless snapped home an empty netter for the final margin late in the game. Wenatchee outshot West Kelowna 39-21.

Wenatchee (13-10-4) wraps up the five-game road swing in Merritt on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on SportsRadio 1340 The Hawk.
