A Brewster woman faces Vehicular Homicide charges after officers say she drove a car into a pond north of Brewster with a six-year-old boy who died while trapped inside late Sunday night.

Okanogan County Sheriff Tony Hawley says one of his deputies, along with Brewster Police and a Douglas County deputy went to the scene where a woman was reported to be screaming that someone was dying in the pond.

They concluded the screaming woman, who was wearing wet clothes, was the driver who drove the car into the pond off of Old Highway 97.

She's 32-year-old Llesenia Infante-Penaloza, who was determined to be under the influence of intoxicants, and was arrested for Vehicular Homicide.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Infante-Penaloza is reported to have been screaming after arriving at a residence after 10 pm Sunday.

The body of the six-year-old boy, who officers say was the only person in the car with her, was recovered at about 1:15 am.
