Approximately 70 people jumped into the cold water in Saturday's Polar Plunge which raises money for local Special Olympics athletes.

Wenatchee Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Supervisor Caryl Andre says of Saturday, they had raised more than $15,000 with the expectation that more would be coming.

"It's incredibly important to Wenatchee Valley teams because that money stays local. It helps pay for our athletes' equipment, uniforms, transportation to competitions. It's very, very important."

Andre says she prefers this year's weather, 40s and sunshine, to last year when there was several inches of snow on the ground and ice in the water.

They are still looking for volunteers to help with the Special Olympics State Winter Games at the end of February.
