The annual Polar Plunge is a little over a month away, taking place February 8th at Walla Walla Point Park.

Wenatchee Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Supervisor Caryl Andre says it's one of the biggest fundraisers for local Special Olympics athletes.

"Special Olympics' mission is that no athlete pays to participate. So, the money raised during our Polar Plunges helps with transportation to competitions, uniforms, equipment; That type of thing."

Andre says their goal is to make $20,000.

"It's a ton of fun. You can register as a family. We also have costume contests, and there's hot food and beverages. It's a really fun atmosphere when we all run in."

She also noted that it's a really cool event right before the Special Olympics Winter Games which will happen in Wenatchee in late February. Andre says they also need volunteers for that big event.
