The law enforcement agencies in Chelan and Douglas Counties that put on the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Washington was honored with the Silver Level, Circle of Honor award.

East Wenatchee Police Detective Brandon Johnson says it's because they raised between $15-30,000.

"The only [agencies] we weren't able to outperform were King County Sheriff's Office and like four others, so it is quite an honor that our citizens are willing to give up their hard earned money for our athletes in the local valley."

The Torch Run locally is a partnership between both County Sheriff's Departments, Wenatchee and East Wenatchee Police and the State Patrol.

Johnson says their goal is to raise more than $30,000 which would get them to the Gold Level.

"Everything that's raised here locally stays with our local athletes. It doesn't go into a pool that to be used for all athletes in Washington State. Our local dollars stay with our local athletes. That's a good thing we like to promote."

Next year looks to be more virtual with the polar plunge and the torch run likely happening online.
