The leaves in the National Forest are starting to change color with fall beginning next week and Okanogan-Wenatchee Public Affairs Officer Robin DeMario says it's important to check the status of campgrounds if you're planning on heading out for the weekend to enjoy the natural beauty.

"Also, as cooler autumn weather arrives visitors are reminded to be prepared and carry with them appropriate clothing and gear for all weather conditions. Plan ahead with clothing that's appropriate for both warm and cold temperatures. If heading out on a long day hike, be prepared for less daylight hours."

She also noted that they will start winter preparations soon.
