Chelan County commissioners have opened the bid process for a road construction project on a portion of Wenatchee Heights Road. Bids are due on March 17 and the project is expected to begin in August.

"It's going to rehabilitate the deteriorating roadway that's really in poor condition," said Jill FitzSimmons, public information officer.

The project will be from its intersection with Squilchuck Road to milepost 1.32. During the project, the roadway will be widened including the hairpin turn at the north end of the project. The deficient guardrail is expected to be replaced, existing shoulders upgraded and various other safety improvements will be conducted.

"What we're going to be using is a rehabilitation technique called full-depth reclamation," said FitzSimmons. "It's a recycling technique where we're gonna go in and use portions of that pavement, crush it, pulverize it and blend it and make a nice, new asphalt on top of it. It'll be a great road once it's done."

The total project costs roughly $2.4 million and being supported with state and local funds. During construction this area will require one lane, flagger controlled traffic with minor delays.
