Two people now have drug referrals after the Chelan County Sheriff's Office says they were found asleep in a car midday Thursday in the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office parking lot.

Deputies say a passerby notified them of the car with the people asleep inside and a suspected Fentanyl pill in plain view on a piece of aluminum foil.

They say the people admitted to smoking the Fentanyl after deputies contacted them to make sure they had not overdosed.

Deputies say the two people were issued drug referrals under current drug possession laws, and were released to walk away so that they would not operate a car under the influence of drugs.

The Sheriff's Office referred to last year's Washington Supreme Court Blake decision as the reason for not detaining two people.

The suspected drugs were confiscated for destruction.

The Chelan County Sheriff's Office issued what it called a Public Service Announcement on social media, saying:
1 - Don’t Do Drugs.
2 - If you are going to do drugs, don’t do them in the Sheriff’s Office parking lot.
