Chelan County PUD reminds customers of a few tips in case of a potential power outage as wildfires surge and the time for winter storms near.

"Whether it's winter storms or wildfires, it's always smart to plan ahead when it comes to power outages," said Rachel Hansen, senior communications strategist.

The region's wildfires makes the electrical system more prone to power outages. The systems are designed with back up for greater reliability, however wildfires limits access to the back up systems.

"Talk with your family, make a plan and if the lights do go out, you can always call Chelan PUD 24/7," said Hansen. "Unplug all appliances and electronics if the lights do go out. Leave one light on so crews can see from the road, power has been restored."

Chelan PUD is reachable 24 hours, 7 days a week at the outage number, 877-783-8123. If using a portable generator, make sure the devices being powered are plugged directly into the generator

"Please stay away from any damaged or fallen power lines and call 911 to report them. Treat all fallen lines as live," said Hansen.
