Church Congregation Votes Down Plan for Homeless Cottages in its Parking Lot
There's now confirmation from Grace Lutheran Church board member John McQuaig that the church congregation voted Sunday night to rescind a proposal to build cottages on its parking lot for homeless college students.
There had been some neighborhood opposition to the plan, but the city could not get involved because zoning in the area allows such structures to be built.
Grace Lutheran is located on the corner of Washington Street and Elliott Avenue. The proposed cottages would have been situated on the north end of the parking lot. They would have included kitchen, bathrooms and laundry facilities in each unit connected to power, water and sewer.
KPQ reported about the plan for the cottages as well as the neighborhood concern and and the city's limitations earlier.
