The City of Wenatchee is looking at a roughly $5 million revenue surplus from 2021.

Mayor Frank Kuntz says last year was a strong one for the city, punctuated by better than expected sales tax numbers.

"Our revenues, not including ARP (American Rescue Plan) funding, came in $3 million more than projected and our expenses came in $2 million less than projected," Kuntz said.

Expenses were down largely because the city was not able to fill all of the positions it had budgeted for, including police and engineering.

The surplus did not include the roughly $3 million in federal ARP funds Wenatchee received in 2021. The city will get another $3 million ARP injection sometime in the middle of this year.
