The City of Wenatchee will be hosting a recycling event for its citizens April 18th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Wenatchee Code Enforcement Officer Lance Merz said those looking to recycle anything must bring proof of residence within the city.

"It can be your water bill, power bill, telephone bill, or your waste management bill. Even your driver's license." Merz explained, "Something that shows you live within the city limits of Wenatchee."

Merz said the biggest change this year will come to tires, which will be limited to 12 per property. Rims will not be removed from tires for return to owner. During last year's event, the City of Wenatchee disposed of around 35,000 tires.

Acceptable items include: Automotive batteries, scrap iron, refrigerators, air conditioners, appliances, televisions, laptops, computers, monitors, and the aforementioned tires.

Items that the city will not accept include: Propane tanks, pressurized tanks, liquids, hazardous materials, mattresses, furniture, fluorescent bulbs, ballasts, household batteries, printers, enclosed barrels or tanks, or household garbage.

The main staging area will be the city's 1745 S. Wenatchee Ave location. Two truck-fulls of yard waste per household can also be dropped off at Stemilt Organic Recycling just down the street.

The free annual recycling event is made possible by a partnership between the City of Wenatchee and Wenatchee Valley College, Stemilt, Wenatchee Valley Salvage & Recycling, the YWCA, and the Wenatchee Valley Technical Skills Center.
