The City of Wenatchee has selected a contractor for the Maiden Lane Temporary Extension project.

The project will construct an access road extending to the Kenzie’s Landing Trailhead.

The city’s Capital Projects Manager Charlotte Mitchell says the much of the new road will initially be unpaved.

“This road will be mostly gravel,” detailed Mitchell. “The first 100 feet will be paved in order to solve some drainage issues, but the rest will be gravel up to the Kenzie’s Landing project.”

Wenatchee mayor Frank Kuntz says even though most of the road will not be paved initially, it will solve a critical access issue once built.

“This work needs to get done to the road (Maiden Lane) all the way to Kenzie’s Landing. Otherwise you couldn’t get there legally, so this fixes that problem even though it’s going to be gravel,” explained Kuntz. “If you do a gravel road you still have to do stormwater improvements, so this accomplishes all of that.”

The stormwater infrastructure related to the project will eventually tie into the Broadview stormwater system.

The contract was awarded to Hurst Construction of East Wenatchee at a cost of $283,000.

Work on the project is expected to begin this month and be completed by late August.
