Crews from Douglas County Fire District 2, Grant County Fire District 3 and the BLM knocked down a brush fire in the Spanish Castle area off of SR 28 in Southeastern Douglas County Tuesday.

Captain Seth Ellis said the fire was sparked in dry grass by a man digging for wells around 11:15 am. Some welding being done ignited the blaze and the fire quickly spread to other fuels, eventually destroying a supply trailer.

The blazed consumed just over three acres. Crews finished mopping up the fire after about five hours.

The well driller suffered some minor burns but refused transport to the hospital and instead continued his work.
