Dr. Ann Diamond will announce Saturday that she's running for the State House, Position 1 at the Wenatchee Public Library beginning at 2:00 p.m.

She says she chose this race as opposed to another is because her top priority is health care.

"From a county commissioner's seat you cannot make policy changes on how the state addresses health care costs. The first place I can have purchase is at the state level, being a state representative. That's why I'm aiming there."

Other priorities include housing, economic security and forest health.

The position is currently held by Republican Keith Goehner.

Those two squared off in 2018, a race won by Goehner but Diamond says she still thinks it could be of a benefit to her.

"It's a completely different landscape. People know who I am and what I stand for and I can work from that and hopefully expand enough of voter interest that I will win."

She says she's running as an independent because she doesn't want to defend party politics.
