Flu Activity Increasing, but Still Well Off 2018
The Chelan Douglas Health District is warning residents that flu activity is increasing.
Public Information Officer Veronica Farias says there have been five lab-confirmed influenza deaths statewide this season.
"We are seeing flu activity increasing locally. Specifically, schools are reporting ten percent or more absenteeism." Farias explained, "However, when we look at the big picture from last year we're still pretty slow."
Farias recommends everyone aged six months or older should still get a flue shot.
Even though the flu vaccine is the most important step in protecting against the flu, there are other preventative measures. Wash your hands often, avoid close contact with anyone who is sick, cover your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, disinfect common surfaces and stay home if you have flu-like symptoms.
