Grant PUD commissioners are moving forward with a plan to relocate the utility’s Ephrata headquarters and its major service centers after signing off on preliminary approval Wednesday.

The PUD says the three buildings need major repairs and upgrades, as well as more room for operations and future growth.

There's particular concern over the Ephrata headquarters, which is situated in a flood-prone area.

The plans call for new buildings to house Grant PUD's Ephrata and Moses Lake service centers.

All three new buildings are to be designed together with construction carried out in sequence. Scheduling will be determined by commissioners

If construction begins in 2025, then the new Ephrata Service Center could be completed and open by 2027, followed by the Moses Lake Service Center in 2029, and the Ephrata headquarters in 2032.

Grant PUD's existing smaller "satellite" locations in Quincy, Coulee City, Royal City and the Wanapum Maintenance Center will remain open with light staffing, although commissioners will determine if they're still needed after the new bigger facilities are up and running.
