Governor Jay Inslee ordered all U.S. and Washington State flags at half staff Monday as a way to honor the two members of the Capitol Police who lost their lives as a result of the riots at the U.S. Capitol building Wednesday.

Inslee said on Twitter, "Today I directed that WA state & U.S. flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff immediately, in honor of fallen U.S. Capitol Police Officers Brian Sicknick and Howard Liebengood, and all Capitol Police officers and law enforcement across the nation."

A federal murder investigation into Sicknick's death was opened last week by the U.S. attorney's office. According to ABC News, Sicknick was a 42-year-old military veteran who had worked for the Capitol Police for 12 years.

Liebengood passed away Saturday. His cause of death has not been released.
