Governor Jay Inslee signed two bills Thursday to delay the WA Cares long term care payroll tax while also expanding those who can get permanent exemptions from the program.

Inslee said the two most discussed issues with the bill were with people retiring within the next 10 years and those who live outside of the State of Washington but would still be taxed.

"The legislature fixed those concerns." said Inslee, "So good news coming out of here. (WA Cares) has been fixed, it's a solid program and we look forward to getting it going."

Inslee added that the program will not be optional, stating that it would not function if made voluntary.

The WA Cares program is now delayed until July of 2023.
