Two police reform laws are effective immediately after being signed into law by Governor Inslee Friday.

House Bill 1735 aims to redefine and clarify reasonable use of force and allows for more use of physical force by police when responding to certain situations.

"We did the right thing last year by taking important steps to pass police reform legislation." Inslee said, "However, we have experienced cases since then where police were not sure how they could help or if they could help a person in crisis."

Also signed into law was House Bill 1719, which removes restrictions on some types of firearms and ammunition acquired from the military. It also provides greater access to non-lethal tools.

There is also one more bill Inslee says he hopes will continue to progress. House Bill 2037 would allow police more authority to temporarily detain individuals when there is reasonable suspicion of a crime, known as a Terry Stop in Washington State.
