A local man recreating on the Wenatchee River drowned Friday afternoon around 12:30.

According to Chelan County Corporal Randy Lake, Kyle Nelson, 39 years old of Wenatchee, was tubing with friends without a life jacket when he went into the unseasonably cold water at Careys Corner just east of Cashmere. The friends drifted ahead of the victim, and when they looked back he was under water.

The man was located and pulled out with the assistance of some other rafters. CPR was attempted but the victim eventually passed away.

Chelan County Sheriff's Office, Chelan County Fire District 1 and Ballard Ambulance all responded to the incident.

Local rivers have been especially high as of late, prompting warnings from local officials.
