Gusty and erratic winds have been challenging firefighters today on the Twentyfive Mile Fire near Lake Chelan.

PIO Randy Johnson said that despite the increase in fire activity, confidence in many portions of the fire line continues to grow, especially near the area of the First Creek Subdivision. Structure protection crews are now breaking down much of the temporary equipment in the area to be used elsewhere.

Burnout operations will continue today along the southern containment line toward Stormy Mountain, which will create more smoke in the area. Completion of the southern sections of the line is critical in keeping the fire from spreading toward the Entiat Valley.

Most of the fire activity is at the blaze's southern and western flanks. The fire's eastern edge is cold and being patrolled, while the northern side is almost completely secure.

The fire is now over 19,000 acres and is considered 40% contained.
