Twentyfive Mile Fire Update

The Twentyfive Mile Fire near Lake Chelan grew by roughly 500 acres overnight but is still 50% contained.

Operations Section Chief Cory Carlson said the biggest event Wednesday was when a brush fire grew behind the containment lines near Lakeshore and Hale Road, expanding to about an acre and a half in size.

"We were able to get a hotshot crew, four engines and a helicopter putting water on that. We put house around it and mopped it up yesterday afternoon." detailed Carlson, "That should be a done deal today."

Crews will continue to repair roads around the more secure sections of the fire to the north and east. Burnout operations have left the southern flank of the fire in good shape as well.

The fire activity has mostly been on the western edge, where the blaze grew by about 500 acres overnight near Eastpoint and TwentyFive Mile Creek. An old burn scar from 2004 on a ridge further to the west is acting as the fire line in the area. Crews don't expect much of a fight as the fire is still about a mile away and there aren't a lot of fuels in the area.

The fire is over 21,552 acres.
