The opportunity to apply for a chance at grant funding from the Waterville Community Fund opened Tuesday, October 1. Folks hoping to land funds for innovative programs have until December 7 to submit an application.

"501c(3) non-profit organizations are eligible to apply, as well as government agencies," said Claire Oatey, director of community events. "Those are kind of the two categories of folks that can apply for a grant."

The nonprofits and government agencies should serve the Waterville community. However, the types of organizations and activities funded in the past have always stemmed from a variety of topics from education to arts and culture.

"Typically they've had to do with things such as arts and culture, civic projects, conservation, environment, education or health and human services," said Oatey.

In the past, the Waterville Community Fund has supported Douglas County Hospital District for updating equipment, updates for the Waterville School District and the NCW Fair. Projects that will enhance existing programs, support the work of community volunteers or have limited access to other funding sources are given priority during the selection process.

Organizations awarded will be announced in December. The grant funds must be expended within a year of being awarded.
