While Washington school's superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal has said face-to-face learning will happen in the fall… that doesn't mean all students will head back to the classroom.

"Work with your school district, but know that given the health restrictions, is it almost impossible for most of our districts to bring every single kid back. It's going to have to be flexible in our communities."

He said those students that do return to the classroom will be required to wear masks and maintain six feet of social distancing… and he said it will vary from district to district.

Reydal acknowledged that that might not sit well with all parents.

"But there are a lot of safety precautions in our schools. We required closed toe shoes, for example, in PE. We require goggles and other face shields in all of our science environments. So there's a lot of tradition around safety and health."

School staff will also be required to wear face masks.
