The family of a long-missing man hopefully has a little more closure after the Douglas County Sheriff's Department received a report Tuesday from the Center for Human Identification.

Undersheriff Tyler Caille said the remains are confirmed to be those of Roy L. Groeneveld, who was 43 when he disappeared from the Bridgeport area 11 years ago. Confirmation was made through DNA testing.

"The coroner's office at this time is working with the family to have the remains and any personal effects turned over to them for whatever services they choose to do,"

Groeneveld's remains were first discovered in April of 2020 by an individual picking asparagus.
