A bill introduced in the State Senate would freeze property
valuations to help homeowners with their property taxes.

Sen. Phil Fortunato says more and more people are struggling
to pay those taxes and stay in their homes.

“I like my house. I’d like to stay in my house. I don’t want to have to sell my house because I can’t afford the property taxes when I retire.”

Fortunato’s legislation would amend the state constitution
to help homeowners.

“If you buy a house, whatever the value is when you buy the house, that’s what it is until you sell it.”

Fortunato says the bill would help people stay in their homes by capping property tax growth.
