The number of students in the Wenatchee School District is expected to decline over the next four years.

That according to district officials who released the data at a school board workshop on Monday.

The district’s Executive Director of Business and Finance Janette Jeffris says a reduction in local birth rates in recent years is the primary reason for the projected drop.

“Our graduating classes are larger than our kindergarten classes that are coming in. So when you have classes that are graduating that are bigger than your incoming classes you’re naturally going to see your school district size shrink,” explained Jeffris.

The district expects to see a decline of 50 to 100 students between 2023 and 2026, and also projects a loss of approximately 40 students per year to the Valley’s new charter school, Pinnacles Prep.
