A woman is dead after being hit by a box truck while trying to remove a deer from the roadway last evening on State Route 28.

Troopers say 28-year-old Taylor Fukuzawa was in the roadway assisting with removal of the injured deer when she was hit by the truck near Palisades.

Fukuzawa, who is from East Wenatchee, was pronounced dead at the scene.

She was hit by the truck at about 6 pm Thursday evening.

The driver of the semi, 58-year-old Paul Hesselgesser of Selah, was not injured.

Troopers say the cause of the crash was a pedestrian in the roadway. Alcohol was not involved. Hesselgesser was driving eastbound on SR 28 when his truck hit Fukuzawa.
