WVC Omak Students to Host Women’s Suffrage Panel Discussion

In recognition of Women’s History Month (March), the Associated Students of Wenatchee Valley College at Omak (ASWVCO) are hosting a Zoom panel based on the Living Voices film “Hear My Voice” from 1-2 p.m. March 4.

Prior to the event, participants are required to register for the webinar at https://wvc.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_MxnLrcDuQsinh1jMTmbyjQ.

Registered participants will receive a link to watch the film on Vimeo in advance of the panel and will then receive a separate link to join the Zoom panel discussion. The film will not be shown during the panel discussion.

The panel discussion will focus on the women’s suffrage movement. Panel members are WVC Political Science faculty Joara Minharo, WVC History faculty Shannon Rodman, and State Board of Community and Technical Colleges Deputy Executive Director of Education Dr. Carli Shiffner. ASWVCO President Belinda Raub-Brown will be moderating. The one-hour panel will discuss the film and the leadership women display in history, politics and civic engagement.

The Living Voices film “Hear My Voice,” explores the fight for women’s right to vote in the United States, a 72-year struggle and whose methods of nonviolent protest predated many of the more well-known movements of the 20th century.

Living Voices uses historical perspectives based on real people and events. It combines live performances with audio/video, visual aids and discussion. Archival film and photos blended with sound and synchronized with a live actor, provide a dynamic interactive experience of how the world looked, sounded and felt during the significant time in history.
