Capital Projects Highlight East Wenatchee 2020 Budget

The East Wenatchee City Council voted unanimously to adopt their 2020 budget Tuesday night.

"Our budget was a growth budget this year, in a sense that we have to keep up with parody of other cities." outgoing mayor Steve Lacy said, "That relates to how we pay our employees. There were some significant increases in a couple of positions because we had to reevaluate what those positions should pay."

Incoming mayor Jerrilea Crawford stated they have an increase of about $7.1 million in their capital budget this year, mostly due to the fact this is their first year of a multi-year construction schedule for their campus.

"They're big projects but we've been planning it for a long time so it's not a surprise." explained Crawford, "We knew it would be coming along, but it does mean we really need to be watching what we're doing."

East Wenatchee had roughly $22.6 million in revenues, which outpaced expenditures on paper by $2.5 million. The only funds to see a notable decrease in their overall balance from 2019 to 2020 were the city's General Fund and Street Improvements Fund.
