Thrive Chelan Valley served 50 local families meal kits in its Carnitas for Kids fundraiser over the weekend and raised $8900 for Lake Chelan Valley youth.

"We were raising funds for to support youth in the Lake Chelan Valley as we serve, empower and advocate for them with our three programs," said Kayla Helleson, executive director.

The three youth oriented programs are Thrive Cares, Thrive Mentoring and the Thrive Teen Center.

A volunteer team covered over 230 miles to deliver the meal kits to doorsteps. The meal kits stocked with pork carnitas, flour tortillas, rice, beans, salsa and cinnamon churros were pre-sold online in October.

"We had a great time as team delivering these meals, it was a smashing success and we're looking forward to providing this service again, probably in the spring," said Helleson.

In addition to the meal kits, the orders were paired with a bottle of Rio Vista Wine and a family friendly game.
