Chelan County moved quickly to hire a Housing Program Coordinator after the City of Wenatchee ended their contractual relationship for homeless funding.

Former Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Director Sasha Sleiman will lead the new group to help create affordable housing.

"Housing is something that, when I moved home two years ago, was top of mind for me. I was certainly impacted by the lack of housing. It's something I've tried to be involved with as a member of the East Wenatchee City Council."

According to a press release, her new responsibilities will have her leading systemic planning efforts that allow for an effective and coordinated response to homelessness and affordable housing outcomes in the region.

Sleiman says she will have a lot of partners to help address issues on both sides of the river.

"There has been so much going on in this Valley, so many wonderful non-profits have been working on housing and homelessness. The cities have been making moves, the counties have been doing a lot of work. My short-term goal is to get in and meet everyone and learn, take stock and then see what the County needs to do."

Chelan County Commissioner Kevin Overbay says they, "Look forward to seeing Sasha's energy, passion, enthusiasm and work ethic on display as we transition this program from the City of Wenatchee to Chelan County."
