As students rolled into the Cashmere High School parking lot Thursday morning, two Chelan County deputies and Region 12 Target Zero Manager, Eveline Roy, surveyed the parking lot for drivers demonstrating the correct driving conduct.

"They issued notifications to the drivers that were wearing their seatbelts and driving without distraction," said Jason Reinfeld, Public Informations Officer.

These notifications alerted the responsible drivers that they were now entered into a drawing for an Amazon gift card. The gift card is an Auto Safety grant provided by State Farm Insurance as an incentive for safer driving, particularly with new drivers like high schoolers.

"What that does with the schools is it puts out there hey we do notice when people are driving safely," said Reinfeld.

The date isn't advertised in advance, but other school districts will have officers stationed in the parking lot handing out 'congratulation infractions' throughout the school year.

The same reward system occurred at Wenatchee High School and Bridgeport High School today.
