Chelan County to Start Almost $2 Million Cascade Orchard Bridge Construction in July

Chelan County is preparing to start the almost $2 million Cascade Orchard Bridge construction project in July. Commissioners moved into a $1.9 million contract with construction company, MJ Hughes Construction, based out of Vancouver, WA.

The county has previously patched Cascade Orchard Bridge, but is now pursuing a permanent fix to resurfacing the bridge. MJ Hughes will remove 1 ½ of concrete bridge deck to replace with a concrete overlay. Pedestrian improvement work will conducted during the project, including widening the sidewalks and taller safety railing.

"The condition of that bridge, the deterioration has gotten to the point where moisture is penetrating the deck surface and impacting the integrity of the deal and adhesion of the concrete," said Commissioner Kevin Overbay.

The work is anticipated to take three months.

The Cascade Orchard Bridge is located on Icicle Road, just on the outskirts of Leavenworth.
