Chelan PUD commissioners approved three resolutions Monday that moves the PUD into the next phase of construction for the $139.5 million future Service Center.

A general contractor was hired recently and cranes and crews will raise the steel frame of the Service Center this spring.

"This construction is going to take us into the next several generations in terms of the benefits it provides the people of Chelan County," said Commissioner Randy Smith.

The future Service Center will be in Olds Station. The project will funnel $2.5 million in fees and taxes to the city of Wenatchee, Chelan County among other taxing districts. The construction project is expected to put forward roughly $30 million into the local economy.

"We got over $26.7 million in local contractors and suppliers that will be working on the project," said Dave Frazier, shared services director.

The PUD started on the project in August 2020 and the 19 acre Service Center is set for a 2023 grand opening.

"We're building an infrastructure at the direction of the people. The people through strategic planning told us we needed to reinvest in our assets," said Commissioner Smith.
