Saturday was Make a Difference Day in the Wenatchee Valley, and Coats for Kids 2020 was another resounding success.

Donations were collected in a socially distant drive-thru/drop off format this year.

Serve Wenatchee Executive Director Thom Nees said between 800 and 900 coats and roughly $3,000 in cash donations were collected in the Albertson's parking for local school children.

"A huge thank you to this community for simply having their eyes open to see a need, and for responding so generously. We're very grateful," said Nees.

Nees added that donations came from all over the socio-economic spectrum.

"When we all come together and simply do what we can, whether it's one coat or whether it's a whole vehicle load, people just want to be a part of a solution." explained Nees, "The problem is that we know there's kids that aren't going to have any coats this winter, and the solution is this community comes together and provides it."

The cash donations will be used to help fill in any sizes that were lacking. Serve Wenatchee will next be reaching out to parent advocates in the Eastmont and Wenatchee school districts to get the coats delivered.
