The Washington State Department of Transportation is reminding motorists that the arrival of spring means it is time to remove their studded tires. The deadline for studded tire removal is March 31.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and make arrangements to remove their studs before the deadline, if possible. WSDOT Spokesperson Barbara LaBoe says the agency has reviewed statewide weather conditions, and no storms are forecast that would warrant an extension of the deadline. "The normal deadline will be in place, which is March 31," LaBoe said.

There are no exceptions to the deadline requirements. "There is no grace period," LaBoe said. "If you are driving with studded tires on April 1st, you certainly do risk a ticket from law enforcement."

Failure to remove studded tires by the March 31st deadline could result in a $136.00 fine.
