The city of East Wenatchee is permitting 'streateries' along Valley Mall Parkway as an interim regulation for downtown businesses. This gives businesses the opportunity to use the street for on street eating and drinking, adjacent to the business.

The pilot program is set for six months, but potentially could be come a permanent fixture.

"It'll go in as interim regulation, but it's probably something we need to look at ," said Lori Barnett, community development director. "Coming up with some standards that would basically keep it in place in perpetuity."

Businesses would face no charge to establish streateries and can take up to three parking spots. The 'streateries' concept was implemented temporarily last year when businesses were under tight COVID-19 related restrictions.

A public hearing on streateries is set for August 24, which is required with any interim regulations.
