East Wenatchee Awards Bid for 4th Street SE Project

The East Wenatchee City Council voted unanimously last night to award a stormwater project near the future Sutton Apartments to KRCI of East Wenatchee.

KRCI will extend a storm trunk line up 4th Street SE from South Jarvis Avenue to the eastern extent of the future Sutton Apartments, just west of South Kentucky Avenue.

Project Development Manager Tom Wachholder said KRCI was the low bid at $232,755. The construction company is expecting to start the four-week project by September 15th.

"We invited six local contractors to bid on this project. We received four bids that were due on August 24th." Wachholder explained, "All four bids were underneath the engineer's estimate. The engineer's estimate was $305,320."

Due to school not physically being in session, the city was able to justify closing a portion of 4th Street SE when construction starts.

"The main advantage that's there by allowing the closure is that we have a substantial cost savings in traffic control. Secondly, Sutton Apartments is able to construct their required frontage improvements during the road closure, so there's certainly some collaboration with the developer on this project," continued Wachholder.

According to the City, from a long-term planning perspective this will extend stormwater infrastructure and allow for future growth. Currently, the only stormwater infrastructure along S Kentucky Avenue is a series of undersized and aging dry wells. Those wells can lead to localized flooding and erosion along the shoulder of the road.
