The East Wenatchee City Council voted in a special session Thursday evening to amend a purchase and sale agreement to buy the city's next police department headquarters.

Mayor Jerrilea Crawford said the original purchase price for the two-story building on the corner of Rock Island Road and Simon Street was $4.2 million, with the city previously offering $3.9 million.

"So I took some liberty to find out what could we agree on to where we could make this purchase happen." Crawford explained, "The magic number appears to be $4,023,000."

The agreement allows for a more accelerated timeline. East Wenatchee will gain ownership in early July. After negotiations with the current tenant, Aging and Adult Care, the city can start making improvements, with the police department moving in as early as the first quarter of next year.

The property at 50 Rock Island Road is currently owned by Three Eagles Holding, LLC.

Council added that making the purchase now saves a lot of money and building a new police headquarters would be even more costly and could take years.
