Folks planning on taking a dip in the newly renovated Eastmont YMCA pool may have to wait until February but with good reason.

The pool closed in April for construction to replace the HVAC, electrical and mechanical systems, add fresh paint, ADA features and a family changing room among other improvements. However, there was a decision to replaster the pool which will push the completion date later than planned.

"Those are the four main areas (electrical, mechanical, lighting and ADA upgrades) we concentrated on with our bond money," said Sally Brawley, Eastmont Parks and Recreation executive director. "We had projected to have it open by December but then as we progressed along on this project it became pretty clear we needed to replaster the pool which was not part of the scope that we originally had money for."

The original bond money didn't cover the re-plastering work, so Eastmont Parks and Recreation approached the city of East Wenatchee and negotiated terms.

"They generously have helped us with that expense so that has put the project at about six weeks to eight weeks longer because now we're into the holidays and people don't usually work over all the holidays," said Brawley.

It was assured it will be well worth the wait.
