The expiration date for millions of doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine across the country was extended again Wednesday, with federal health officials now saying the shot is viable for six months.

Washington State Deputy Health Secretary Lacy Fehrenbach said vaccine delivery has transitioned from a supply-driven system to one that is following demand.

"We want to use our doses as efficiently as possible. We encourage those to be used by Washingtonians stepping forward to get vaccinated." Fehrenbach stated, "Otherwise, we are working with our providers to move them around."

This is the second time the FDA extended the expiration deadline for the J&J shot. It's unclear just how many Johnson & Johnson doses are unused in Washington State, although the number is thought to be in the tens of thousands.
