Grant County Fire District 7 (GCFD7) is receiving a grant to help the 100% volunteer force better communicate.

The Soap Lake-based district says the Paul Lauzier Charitable Foundation enabled them to fulfill a critical need by funding new Motorola pagers for its firefighters. GCFD7's previous pagers were more than 20 years old and in various states of operability.

The new pagers are reportedly more reliable, stay charged longer, and provide crisp, clear communications. They will be used to receive notification of 9-1-1 calls and information about incidents around the Soap Lake area.
