A 31-year-old woman from New Mexico is lucky to be alive after getting lost near Aasgard Pass during a hike of the Enchantments.

Sergeant Jason Reinfeld with Chelan County Emergency Management stated that after spending the night together at Colchuck Lake, the hiker's fatigued husband headed back to the trailhead while she pressed on into the Enchantments alone. While the couple had initially planned to stay another night in the Enchantments, it's unclear whether the female hiker intended to follow through with staying an additional night or was simply trying to complete the Enchantments loop.

A few hours later she became lost and called for help from a satellite phone, but because of the weather had to spend the night around Aasgard Pass. The next morning, members of Chelan County Mountain Rescue hiked in to the stranded New Mexican.

"People need to be aware that this loop through the Enchantments is not for beginners. You need to be well equipped, especially this time of year." explained Reinfeld, "I wouldn't even advise doing it unless you're an absolute expert at hiking and mountaineering."

The hiker was taken back to civilization via helicopter and declined further transport to the hospital.
